New Lineup: XTAR 18500 2600mAh Balances Capacity, Size and Triple Protection

A higher-capacity protected battery still has to fit the device. See how XTAR balanced 2600mAh capacity, battery length, protection and 4.5A output in its new 18500.

XTAR has added a new 18500 2600mAh protected Li-ion battery to its lineup.

It combines 2600mAh capacity, triple protection and up to 4.5A discharge, with the finished battery dimensions carefully controlled for equipment designed around the 18500 format.

Why Battery Dimensions Matter for 18500 Devices

Many devices are designed around a fixed 18500 battery compartment, so replacing the battery with a larger format such as an 18650 is not always possible.

For protected 18500 batteries, the finished size also depends on more than the cell itself. Adding protection components can increase the diameter, length, or both.

When the battery compartment has limited clearance, even a small dimensional increase can affect installation or contact with the device terminals.

That makes finished battery dimensions an important consideration when choosing a higher-capacity protected 18500.

2600mAh Capacity with Controlled Battery Dimensions

The XTAR 18500 provides a rated capacity of 2600mAh while integrating a built-in protection PCB.

The finished battery measures Φ18.4±0.3 × 52.0±0.5 mm, with both diameter and length controlled as part of the finished battery design.

This allows XTAR to combine 2600mAh capacity and built-in protection while keeping the battery dimensions suitable for equipment designed around the 18500 format.

Three-Layer Battery Protection

Many devices that use 18500 batteries are specialized or professional equipment, often with higher requirements for power reliability and battery safety.

For these higher-value devices, a battery issue can affect not only runtime, but also the normal operation of the equipment.

The XTAR 18500 2600mAh uses a three-part safety design:

Explosion-Relief Valve

The cell includes an internal pressure-relief structure designed to respond if abnormal pressure builds inside the battery.

PTC Protection

A built-in PTC thermistor helps limit current when battery temperature rises abnormally.

Protection PCB

The protection circuit helps guard against conditions such as overcharge, over-discharge, and short circuit.

Up to 4.5A Discharge for More Device Requirements

Capacity is one part of battery performance. The device also needs the battery to supply enough current during operation.

The XTAR 18500 2600mAh is rated for up to 4.5A maximum continuous discharge, giving it the discharge capability needed for a broader range of 18500-powered equipment.

This allows the battery to balance two requirements within the same 18500 design:

2600mAh capacity for runtime and 4.5A discharge capability for equipment with higher current requirements.

Where the XTAR 18500 2600mAh Can Be Used

The 18500 format continues to appear in a number of specialized devices.

Typical applications may include:

  • Tattoo Equipment
Portable tattoo equipment can require compact batteries that still provide sufficient runtime and current output.
  • Thermal and Security Equipment
Some thermal imaging and security devices use fixed battery compartments where battery size and runtime both matter.
  • Medical and Professional Equipment
Devices designed around the 18500 format need batteries with consistent dimensions and dependable protection.
  • Outdoor Lighting and Portable Devices
Compact lighting equipment and other portable electronics can benefit from the balance between capacity and battery size.

As always, users should confirm the battery voltage, dimensions, current requirements, and manufacturer recommendations before replacing an existing battery.
